Senior/Lead Full Stack Developer (Ruby/Elixir/JS)

Full-Time in London, GB - Remote OK - Senior

About us is a fast growing company founded in 2016 selling made-to-measure curtains and blinds using 3D customisation technology (moving into other home décor products soon!). Check us out on and @madebystitched on social!

We believe in a new generation of products that are made from sustainable materials, rather than mass produced synthetic alternatives that are harmful to the environment. We also believe in the power of technology to help customers buy the products they love.

Building a great business is the thing that gets us out of bed in the morning. We’re a pending B-Corp and believe that a better business should focus as much on its employees, customers, suppliers and the world around us as fast growth and profit.

We are backed by the lead early investors in Not-on-the-High-St, Just Eat and Lyst and have ambitious growth plans. Ready to join?

Job description

Are you an experienced senior dev looking to take on some more responsibility and grow your career?

We’re looking for an organised, experienced developer who loves working closely with their team - we’re a very collaborative bunch.

We can offer you a chance to take the next step in your career. You’ll be working closely with the CTO, helping to build and mentor a growing team in a rapidly growing company who have found product-market fit and are now looking for scale.

We’re not too fussed which side of the stack you prefer, but ideally you’ll have had a bit of experience across all of it, as you’ll be eventually moving into a leadership role in a full stack team, and called on to support people on both sides.

We’re a forward-thinking shop. We don’t use every new technology, but we will use something if it really delivers - we’ve gone all in on Phoenix LiveView, for example, as it is a genuinely brilliant piece of tech that dramatically simplifies development.

As an early developer at Stitched you’ll be given a lot of freedom to make smart engineering decisions and influence the direction of our platform.

This is a chance to be in on the ground floor and help shape our growth as we scale. Come and join us.

Who are we looking for?

If you’re passionate about any/all of these, then we want to chat:

  • Someone who wants to be an engineering manager, but just hasn’t had the chance to learn yet in their current role
  • An excellent and empathetic listener, able to work productively with the different sides of the business
  • Elixir experience, even if it’s just in your spare time
  • Ruby on Rails - we still use Rails for our main order and pricing service and are more than happy to consider strong Ruby developers who wish they also got to use Elixir.
  • PostgreSQL experience
  • Modern javascript - ideally you’ve used webpack in anger a few times
  • Experience with deploying software on Google Cloud Platform and GKE - you will be required to work with Kubernetes
  • Passionate about delivering high quality software
  • Experience working in a Kanban flow
  • A strong focus on delivery - you are someone who takes pride in everything they ship, testing thoroughly and owning mistakes.

In addition to an interest in home décor, design, the environment and technology, we’re looking for a dynamic teammate, who loves a challenge, has no “wrong side of bed”, comes to work with a bit of hustle and is willing to take initiative without prompting.

Technical excellence is key, along with a passion for finding new ways of engaging customers with new technology, but if you really want to be a Stitcher, you’ve also got to be nice, approachable and willing to get stuck in.

What can you expect from Stitched?

You can expect to be welcomed into a very friendly team from day 1. There is always music playing in the office, cups of coffee and grub going round. Even though the business is moving fast, the team will always make time to give direction or help out; where we don’t know the answer, we will roll up our sleeves and solve problems together.

We will pay you a competitive salary and you will be given options in the Company. It is very important to us that you feel like an owner, not just an employee. You will be entitled to 26 days holiday on top of public holidays, and other company benefits (including a company pension and curtain allowance). Our offices are based just behind Cardinal Place in Victoria, super close to the tube and National Rail stations.
